The Letters and Lessons of Teddy Roosevelt for His Sons, edited by Douglas Phillips: “I would rather have a boy of mine,” Roosevelt wrote to one of his sons, “stand high in his studies than high in athletics, but I would a great deal rather have him show true manliness of character than show either intellectual or physical prowess.” A fitting prioritization, as headlines increasingly recount scandals in the worlds of business, athletics, and academia.
